Collaging Workshops
The spirit behind art collaging as a practice, is enduringly appealing – perhaps because we can find joy in the messiness of the glue, the cool manipulation of all the various materials we use to create an art collage and the unpredictable nature of the final product!
History documents “Collage” as getting its name from the French word for glue and describing a broad range of art-making techniques that rely on re-appropriating previously created images and found materials into whole new compositions.
The method of collaging was first made popular in 1912, by two artists whom were radically transforming the painting world with their style of Cubism, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. It was with the cubist style artworks that these artists would portray the subject from a gathering of viewpoints, to represent the subject in greater context. Yet, in 1956, it was the POP art movement that famously came into being with art collaging, thanks to Richard Hamilton’s work “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?”, which proved to be the first work of ‘pop art’ to achieve iconic status!
Participate in our art-collaging workshops and plan to have some unpretentious, imaginative fun, exploring art-collaging with friendly, personhood focused, like-minded people!
These workshops are for anyone who is interested in exploring the process and benefits of art collaging while enjoying the social atmosphere of inclusiveness in community!
